So... are we just de-globalizing or is the world also slowly ghosting the dollar? 👻🌍

We’ve had a few relationship phases with the global monetary system:

First, the gold standard.

Then came Bretton Woods, where the dollar was the cool kid tied to gold and everyone else just followed along 🏦

After that? Bretton Woods II where the U.S. basically went shopping worldwide 🛒, and the dollars sent abroad came back as investments in our Treasuries, stocks, real estate, and overpriced tech startups 📈

But now? Things might be changing. We're seeing signs of a world moving toward tighter-knit regional trading blocs, less global outsourcing, and fewer U.S. dollars flying overseas like confetti at a parade 🎊✈️

This shift could explain why:

The dollar’s slipping 📉

Gold’s glowing again 🌟

Even the Mag 7 stocks are dancing to a new beat 💃

And here’s the kicker: with fewer dollars going abroad, fewer might come back which means less demand for U.S. assets, and potentially higher risk premiums for bonds and equities. 😬

FYI: Foreign investors still hold a massive $18 trillion in U.S. stocks and $15 trillion in bonds. But if the trend keeps shifting… well, let’s just say we might need a new name for the next monetary era. (Bretton Woods III: This Time It’s Personal?) 🎬
